Revelation 8, The Seventh Seal

Revelation 8, The Seventh Seal

The seven angels with the seven trumpets will bring us to the full intensity of the great tribulation. God is directly and supernaturally judging a rebellious people. The seven trumpets will reveal the direct activity of God because of man’s and satan’s rebellion. God will judge both. Some might say this book is scary but for those who are left behind, God is going to scare them back to Him and then to heaven. When the 7th seal was opened there was silence for about 1/2-hour. This was the calm before the storm. It was a transition from grace to judgment. If you have ever been in the eye of a tornado, it will give you a sense of what this silence is. These seven angels with their seven trumpets will be a process of moving all the Israelites back to the land of Palestine. Just like the walls of Jericho fell down, the walls of God's opposition will crumble and fall down. Another Angel went to the altar where prayer is offered. The incense is the prayers of the Saints still on earth Psalm 141: 2 says “let my prayer be set before thee as incense ..” These prayers were made in Jesus’ name. All these prayers left the angels hands and went to God. The thundering’s mean the storm is coming. The voices is the intelligent direction of God. God is ceertainly in charge. Lightning came after the Thunder. The earthquake is the response to the severe pressure that will be put in place by God's judgment. The half hour of silence is over, the prayers have been heard and the order to blow the trumpets were made. The first trumpet blew and 1/3 of the grass, forest, and trees are damaged by fire and hail. Plant life was the first to be created and the first to be destroyed. The second trumpet blew and a mountain on fire was cast into the sea and 1/3 of sea life was destroyed. The third trumpet blew, and Wormwood means calamity and sorrow. The star is a meteor containing poison which contaminates 1/3 of fresh water and drinking water for mankind. The 4th trumpet blew, and the light and the darkness put out on 1/3 of the earth. Matthew 14:29. Then an Angel flies around heaven saying with a loud voice, woe and judgment is coming on the earth.

Revelation 7, The Sealed Ones

 Revelation 7 The Sealed Ones

What we have learned so far is that the church has been raptured up. John told us what we will see in heaven. Then last week we learned what will happen on earth to those who are left behind. The world is in chaos. The Holy Spirit is still on earth, but he is no longer holding back evil like he did before the rapture. The devil is having a holiday during this. He can now do as he pleases. God grants this because this is his period of judgment upon a Christ rejecting the world. The question is how will the people be saved during the tribulation? John explains that in this chapter. Before the rapture, God used the wind in judgment in way of fire, hail, snow, storms and vapors. (Palms148: 8). Now in the tribulation God holds back the wind. He is still in control. God's purpose is to bring the rest of the world to Him. If He still didn't love those who were left behind, He would shut the earth down and speak it out of existence. But we will see that multitudes will turn to him. When we have struggles in our life we will either turn to God or away from Him. These people that are left behind have hardened their hearts to God. Therefore, God's judgments are harsher than before. This will turn a multitude of people to God. So far, he has four angels holding back the north, South, East and West winds. Then there is a 5th. angel ordering them not to hurt the earth, sea, and trees until God's servants are sealed in their foreheads. This is an indication that God's judgment is going to get worse, so it is necessary to secure the servants of God. Without the seal, they will not survive. Those who received the seal will be those of the 12 tribes of Israel and the Gentiles. It doesn't say what the seal in their forehead will look like but there will be a great distinction between God's people and those who take the mark of the beast. He promises to shorten the days of His people because the people will not be able to buy and sell unless they have the mark of the beast. God will protect and provide for His servants. He numbered how many Israelites that will be saved but he did not number the Gentiles as they were too numerous to count. There will be more saved during the tribulation than ever before. And now at the end of it all there is a fantastic scene of universal worship of God by his creatures. The church is there, the Old Testament Saints are there, and the tribulation saints are there. And all the angels join in. Now those that went through the tribulation and were redeemed are before the throne of God and are serving God in His temple. Christ is dwelling with them. These people were hungry, thirsty and suffered in the heat. Now they are in heaven and will be fed and given living waters and God will wipe away all their tears. These people are not a part of the church but were people redeemed through the tribulation.

Revelation 6, The Six Seals continued.

Revelation 6, The Six Seals, continued

This fifth seal is of the altar that is in heaven. The souls mentioned here are the Old Testament saints. These are all the prophets that were slain between the time of Abel and Zacharias. Also, those who were slain in the Great Tribulation period who suffered for the name of Christ. All of them will be given a white robe and told to rest awhile. The Sixth seal is the beginning of the last half of the tribulation. The earthquake will be greater than any earthquake before. The sun will become black and the moon red as blood. The winds will shake the stars out of the heavens. The heavens depart as a scroll when they are rolled together, and the mountains and the islands will be moved. Everyone will run to the hills and mountains to hide from the wrath of Jesus Christ. The only way to avoid this period is to put our faith and trust in Jesus and build that relationship with Him that ensures our entry into the Kingdom of heaven. We all want to be raptured up before these terrible times come.

Revelation 6, The Six Seals

Revelation 6 The Six Seals

In this chapter it is revealed what happens on earth while God's children are in heaven. The great tribulation is what happens. The Lord Jesus opens the 6 seals and the four horses ride forth. Jesus is now the executor of God's will upon the earth as He opens the seals of the book. According to J. Vernon McGhee and a few other Bible scholars they say the White Horse and the rider is the Antichrist. He is the one who pretends to be Christ. He doesn't come as a villain but as a smooth talker. He is going to be the most attractive man that the world has ever seen. He promises peace and because all the people that are not raptured is in a world of chaos. They accept him and follow him, but because he lied to them it does not turn out well. The tribulation comes in like a lamb but goes out like a lion. The piece which the rider promised was short lived because after that came the red horse of war. This will be a real-world War. Most likely World War 111. The third horse is black which speaks of mourning. It also speaks of famine. Always after war comes a lack of food. In those days there will not be enough food for food or barley. There will be enough barley for oil and wine and the rich will thrive on that but the poor will remain poor and hungry. The fourth horse is a pale rider who brings pestilence upon the earth that will kill 1/4 of the population. There won't be enough medicines to go around to stop the plagues. The pale rider is named death. He's not only death of the body but death in Hades where the lost man goes. The pale rider named death comes with hades following with him. The sword, famine, pestilence and wild beasts will destroy the earth's population by ¼. read Matthew 24: 5-8.

The Lukewarm Church of Laodicea

The Lukewarm Church of Laodicea

This church is about 40 miles from Ephesus. Its name means “justice of the people”. It was a place of great wealth, of commerce and Greek culture. It was a place of science and literature. It boasted of an excellent medical school. This city was abandoned during the earthquakes and has not been built as of the last recording. John writes this letter of Christ saying Christ has the last word. He is the Amen. His word is final. He is the one who will fulfill all the promises of God. He says that because the church has rejected the deity of Christ, Christ will reveal all and tell all. This will be the day the church will have difficulty hearing the truth. He reminds them that Christ is their creator. He knows all and he doesn't commend this church for anything. Their works are evil works. They were lukewarm people and Christ wanted to spit them out of His mouth. A cold church denies every doctrine of faith while the hot church is one who has a real spiritual fervor and passion for Christ. A lukewarm church maintains a middle of the road position. They didn't want to fully believe the whole word of God, nor did they want to say they are firm in their beliefs. This kind of church makes Jesus sick enough to spit them out of His mouth. It's like saying “I love you” and not meaning it. This city believed they were rich and didn't need anything. Laodicea and Sardis were two of the richest cities in this area during this time. They believed the dollar was the answer to every problem of life. Christ said differently. He said they were miserable, poor, blind and naked. Where were their priorities? Where are our priorities? Are they in material things or in spiritual wealth? The Laodiceans were “the wretched one.” It was worse than all the seven churches. It was spiritually poverty-stricken. They didn't study the word, had no love of Christ and did not witness Christ’s saving grace. It was blind to its own condition. Christ counseled them to become part of the blood of Christ and be clothed in his righteousness. And to receive the Holy Spirit who opens the eyes of the believer. Christ tells them that because He loves them, He rebukes them and hopes they will repent and change their ways. They need to get on fire for God. Christ is knocking on the door of our heart. He won't force His way in but waits for us to answer. Once we answer He will share His word with us and help create a relationship with Him. Those who overcome will sit with Christ in heaven next to God on his throne. If we have an ear to hear the spirit of God can make the Word real to us.

Revelation 5, The Scroll

Revelation 5, The Scroll

In the last chapter and in this one, God's people are in heaven. John shows us what we will see once we are there. The Lion and the Lamb, both of whom represent Christ is the main subject of this chapter. John continues what he started in chapter four. In verse one it shows God holding the scroll in His hands that is tightly sealed with seven seals. Many people say this scroll contained the 10 commandments. It doesn't say in this chapter what it says, so it is merely speculation. Another speculation might be that it contains the new covenant with the House of Israel. The reason would be is because the 10 commandments failed. Not because there was anything wrong with it or its laws, but because of man. People might blame our sins on the tree in the garden of Eden or on the 10 commandments, but the truth is that the fault lies upon men who chose not to follow the rules. The new covenant depends on the throne of God. It depends on Jesus Christ. The strong angel is a powerful angel with a loud voice which is needed to make the covenant effective. There is not a man in heaven or earth that can open the scroll, nor can they take control of the earth. This bothered John so much that he cried. No one seemed worthy until one of the elders spoke to him and told him not to cry because the Lion of Judah will open the book. Jesus is the Lion of Judah. Then John visioned a wounded lamb. He was the only one found worthy to open the seven seals of the scroll. The wounded lamb is Jesus Christ, who sacrificed himself on the cross for our sins. His blood has ransomed us from slavery to sin so that we can become His holy people. Only Christ, who is also the conquering Lion of Judah to utter futility but with him, our lives are being woven into the beautiful tapestry of God, salvation history. No wonder He deserves all the glory, honor and power. Once Jesus takes the book, the 24 elders bow down before Jesus and worship Him. Each of them has a harp and a bowl of incense, which are the prayers of the Saints. Those who love to sing and play a harp can still do that in heaven. If you can't do it now but you want to I am certain you will be able to do it perfectly in heaven. John says that there are so many Saints, beasts, and elders there that there are too many to count. Even all the creatures on earth were praising him. Can you imagine being part so such a huge praise and worship team? Get prepared to sing your heart out for Jesus Christ who is worthy of all our praises.

Revelation 4, The Throne Room of Heaven

Revelation 4, The Throne Room of Heaven

The church is no longer mentioned. That is because the church has been raptured up. The church is not a name, it is the people who trusted in Christ. They are no longer on earth but in heaven. The church is now mentioned as the bride of Christ. In 1 Cor. 15:51-52 it says, “behold, I show you a mystery, we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” In 1Thess.4:17 it says “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” John saw an open door which is the way to God through Christ. This door remains open for all time. It is the door for believers to come through. The open door is Jesus Christ who also enters the door of our hearts. Christ says “come here”. It is an invitation to John and all believers that know Christ as their savior. Christ's voice is like a trumpet. It was a shout that pulled John up and will someday pull you and me up. Immediately (in a twinkling of an eye) John was in the spirit. The Holy Spirit is guiding John into new truths and showing him what is to come. John sees the throne of God and Jesus is at His right hand. This is no longer the throne of grace but the throne of judgment. John didn't see a form on the throne but the brilliance and brightness of precious stones. Jasper was a myriad of colors with purple being the most outstanding. It was the first stone in the foundation of the new Jerusalem and its walls. A sardius stone is a fiery red. It was the first stone in the breastplate of the high priest. The rainbow is like an emerald which is green. The rainbow is a promise that God will not destroy the earth by flood. The green is also the color of the earth. The 24 elders stand for the total church from the Pentecost to the rapture. The white raiment is the righteousness of Christ. The “crowns of gold” indicates that His bride will rule with Christ. Crowns are also given as rewards. The lightnings, thundering’s and voice indicate judgment is coming directed by the one on the throne. The seven spirits of God are a reference to the Holy Spirit. The Sea of glass represents the holiness and righteousness of God. We will be at rest and no longer victims of the storms of life. We will no longer be on a tossing sea. The four beasts are living creatures alert and aware of everything. The first living creature was aligned. The tribe of Judah was like a lion and the ruler and king will come from that tribe. Jesus was born a king, died a king, was of the tribe Judah and will return to us as king. The 2nd. creature was like a calf. This is a beast of burden, a servant. Christ is present in Matthew as a servant. The 3rd. creature has a face of a man. The Book of Luke presents Christ as the son of man. The 4th creature was like an eagle. This communicates the deity of Christ. The six wings relate to the seraphim in Isaiah 6. Their song is the same as the one in Isaiah 6:3. John saw the first great worship service in heaven. Praise and adoration are the eternal activity of God's creatures in heaven. We will be laying our crowns down at Jesus's feet as an act of submission and worship. The 24 elders worship God as their Creator. He didn't forget to create you and me because we are in His plan and purpose. We worship him because of that.

The Church of Philadelphia, The Faithful Church

The Church of Philadelphia, The Faithful Church

This church is called the revived church. There are people there wanting to hear the word of God and are hungry for it. This was a typical Greek colony. It was known for their wine vineyards. The same earthquake that destroyed Sardis also destroyed Philadelphia. Since then both cities have been rebuilt. Christ had no condemnation for this church as they were true Christians. They were missionaries who taught the Word of God. The key of David speaks of Christ’s regal claim as ruler of the universe. When Christ comes to reign on earth, He will sit on the throne of David. Luke 1:32-33. Christ is the only one who can open and close doors for us today. Christ is looking for the church to produce fruit. He has opened a door of knowledge of the scriptures and once we enter that door, no one can shut it. Christ tells them that they have a little power. They didn't boast of the works, they merely taught the word of God and didn't deny His name. Christ says that He will let the followers of satan know that He loves this church. Because He loves them and they kept his word, He will keep them from the great tribulation. He who is patiently waiting for the coming of Christ will not have to live through the tribulation. Christ will come suddenly; we will be unaware until it happens. There will be a pillar in the temple of God for those who overcomes the world. We will have a personal relationship with Christ that bears His name in the new Jerusalem.

Revelation 3, The Dead Church of Sardis

Revelation 3, The Dead Church of Sardis.

The church in Sardis represents the Protestant church. It was the capital of the great Kingdom in Lydia and one of the oldest and most important cities of the Asia minors. This was the 1st place coins were minted. Its last Prince was Croesus who was captured by Cyrus. He was considered the wealthiest man in the world and everything he touched seemed to turn to gold. Sardis was destroyed by an earthquake during the reign of Tiberius, a Roman. They worshipped Diana the goddess of the moon and apollos, the god of the sun. John's letter commended the church for the doctrine of justification by faith, and this faith produced works. He condemns the Protestant church for just going through the motions. They regularly attended church on Sundays but didn't go anymore during the week. They didn't come to hear the word of God. Christ through John tells them to wake up and watch and establish the things that are about to die. Their works were not fully acceptable to God. These were Protestants who have turned away from looking for the coming of Christ. They say certain things must happen before Christ comes. No one can say that, because no one knows when Christ will come. He can come at any time. Christ alone is the only one that knows when He will come. The great truths they had received were being lost, they lost the authority of the word of God. If we are not watching for the Christ to come, he will come on us as a thief and we don't know what hour that will be. John's letter tells them that there are a few people in Sardis that did not defile their Christian life, and they will walk with Christ in white garments for they are worthy. He that overcomes by the blood of Christ, will be confessed by Christ before God and his angels. We don't do this through our own strength, cleverness or ability but through the blood of Christ. He tells them to hear the voice of the spirit speaking through the Word of God

The Dead Church of Thyatira

The Dead Church of Thyatira

Is Romanism. It was a dark period. Christ is judging them and watching them intensely, He commends them for:

Their personal love of Christ which came out in their works. They were true believers.

They had love despite their ritualism.

They had a great ministry.

They were patient in days of darkness.

Their works were greater than in the beginning.

He condemned them for:

Jezebel who brought paganism into Israel. In Thyatira there was a woman who was a teacher and prophetess who was like the woman, Jezebel. Pagan practices were mingled with Christian works and worship. Christ gave her time to repent but she didn’t. The great tribulation could be the persecution which Rome endured under communism. Or it could be the great tribulation the apostate church falls into. Christ says He will kill all those who were brought up under the pagan system. He searches everything about us. He says He will come and take them out. To those who don’t hold to their doctrine He tells them to stand fast for Him. We overcome by faith, not our efforts. When we go to heaven, we will rule with Christ. In I Cor. 6:2 it says the saints shall judge the world. Christ is the bright and morning star and will come and take us home with Him. The children of Jezebel will not hear, but the children of the Lord will hear because the spirit opens their ears.

Sometimes people think they can hide portions of their lives from everyone. They try to hide angry tempers, deep jealousies, or sexual sin. In His message to Thyatira, Christ clearly stated that “He searches the minds and hearts.” Nothing is hidden from Him. No sin can escape His notice. People may think they are getting away with it, but God knows. Everywhere we go, everything we say, think, or do is seen by God. That understanding should help us to steer clear of sin.

Two Letters from God Through John

Letter to the Persecuted Church of Smyrna

This was a martyred church. They suffered for Christ. 5 million Christians were martyred during this time. Christ reminded them that he also suffered and was triumphant over death.

He commends them for:

For their tribulation. They suffered a lot for Christ under the Roman government.

They're poverty - they were lacking in material possessions but were rich in spiritual wealth. The church in Smyrna consisted of slaves, runaway slaves, X slaves and poor people.

Their blasphemy of those which say they are Jews but in truth belong to satan. The Lord tells them not to fear any of those things. There was a multitude of people going to their death, singing praises to the Lord. John tells them that satan will throw some of them into prison and will have 10 days of suffering. He tells them to be faithful unto death and they were. They will receive crowns of life for eternity. He tells them to listen to God as we should all be still and listen to what God tells us.

The Compromising Church of Pergamum

This was where paganism reigned. Ephesus was a political center, Smyrna the commercial center and Pergamum the religious center.

Jesus Christ had the sharp sword the word of God. It has the answers to man's need and man's sin, which in Pergamum was false religion. Even though satan's throne was in this city, religion was big business. Don't be mistaken, Satan is not in hell yet. He is loose and is the prince of the world, controlling kingdoms and going up and down the earth as a roaring line 1 Peter 5:8. The reason Christ said satan's throne is in Pergamum was because there were heathen temples there. Christ knew the church was in a bad place, but he spoke against them for the doctrine of Balaam, which revealed that God would curse Israel because they were sinners. They taught Balak the way to corrupt Israel was by intermarriage with the Moabite women. This brought in idolatry and fornication. In Ephesus they hated the doctrine of the Nicolaitans but in Pergamum some adopted this doctrine. Christ tells them in John's letter to repent and if they didn't, he would fight them with the word of God. John tells them to listen to the spirit.

Revelation 2, Letters from the Lord Through John to the 4 Churches

Revelation 2, Letters from the Lord Through John to 4 Churches

In each of these letters to the seven churches is mentioned some features of the glorified Christ. The letters are addressed to the Angel of the church who is a human messenger, possibly the preacher. John tells each of the churches that “He knows their works.” He commends them and condemns them in the same letter except for Smyrna and Philadelphia where there was no condemnation. He had no commendation for Laodicea. He warns each of the churches to hear what the spirit says. Each of these letters come directly from Jesus Christ through John.

The loveless Church in Ephesus

The first church was in Ephesus with the population of 2000 people. Ephesus was founded by the Hittites in 2000 BC. It was where Paul had his great ministry and later John arrived as their preacher. God is holding the church in his hands and is judging the church. He commends the church for the following: 1. Works for being filled with the Holy Spirit.

2. For their labor - their weariness in service.

3. For their patience which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.

4. For their intolerance for evil men. They tested everyone who came to Ephesus and claimed to be an apostle. If they hadn't seen the resurrected Christ, they were asked to leave.

5. They preached Christ, believing in His virgin birth, His deity, His death and resurrection and they paid a price for their belief.

6. They had not grown weary. They may have grown weary in the work but not of the work. You may be tired of going to work, yet you love what you do.

His condemnation was that they have lost their first love. They had suffered in their personal relationship to Jesus. There are a lot of rules in the world on how to love yourself, and your neighbors. How to love your spouse but if you don't have an intimate relationship with Christ, then you will always struggle. If you do, all your relationships and all your Christian service will be a joy. John tells the church to remember how they started and go back to that. It's like getting married and in the beginning everything is perfect. After a while thing might become complacent or unacceptable. Looking back at how it was in the beginning and going back to being loving and loveable makes it good again. John told the church to repent and return to Christ. Until churches break the shell of self-sufficiency, conceit, sophistication, vanity, pride and so forth they cannot have an intimate relationship with Jesus. If they don't repent Jesus will come and close them down. The Nicolaitans were a cult that believed that you must indulge in sin to understand it. They believed that the sins did not touch the spirit. The Church of Ephesus hated this and so did the Lord. John tells them don't just hear the words but listen to the spirit of the Lord.

Revelation 1, Glorified Christ

Revelation 1   Glorified Christ

In mark 4:11 it says, “Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God.” Jesus said this to His apostles. Along the way God always gives knowledge to whomever he wishes. John tells us that whoever reads this book will receive a special blessing. In this chapter we see Christ in His unveiled beauty and power and glory. This revelation started with God to Jesus Christ to the Angel who revealed it to John and finally to His servants and that includes us. Jesus is the living word. John not only heard the living word, he saw it too. John greets the seven churches in Asia which today is modern Turkey. We know John was a pastor of the church in Ephesus. Apparently, he had oversight of these churches in that area. The number 7 means completeness. Such as seven years of plenty, seven years of famine, 7 beatitudes, the seven spirits refer to the Trinity Jesus the God son, the Holy Spirit and God who was and is and is to come. Jesus Christ is the faithful witness of the facts of this book. He is the first born from the dead. He resurrected and is the only one who had come back from the dead with a glorified body and His children will follow Him. Ultimately Christ will be the ruler of all kings and peoples of the earth and that is because He loves us and washed us from our sins. He will come in the clouds as a physical body and all eyes will see Him. Not everyone will want to see Him. Those who live in their sins or do not believe in Him will not want to see Him. When it says He is the beginning and ending it means He is of all time and eternity. John talked to his troubles he had in the Isle of Patmos. The Roman Emperor had put him in prison for preaching the Word of God. That was his tribulation that Christians experience today in God's kingdom here on earth. It was on this island of Patmos that he received his visions. It was a vision with sight and sound. What he heard was a voice like a trumpet. When Jesus comes, he will come with a shout. What he saw was 7 lampstands which stood for seven churches. The person who he saw was seen in high priest clothes. Jesus Christ was the High Priest clothed in righteousness. He is judging the seven churches. His hair and head speak of His eternal existence. He is the ancient of days. His flaming eyes speak of his penetrating gaze that knows everything about you and me. His brass feet is symbolic of judgement. In His hands He held seven stars meaning he controls the whole universe. The two-edged sword represents His word. Hebrews 4:12. This vision of Jesus was paralyzing to John. Even though John was favored by Jesus while on earth, John had great reverence for Jesus. Jesus reveals who He is in this vision and who the seven lampstands or candlesticks are the churches, and the seven stars are the angels of the churches. All that John seen and heard he writes about to the seven churches, and this is just the beginning.

Introduction to the Book of Revelation. Part 2

Introduction to the Book of Revelation. Part 2

Revelation is a series of prophetic visions given to the Apostle John. The risen, glorified Savior appeared to His servant John and unveiled a view of future events. Certain events will trigger God’s last days leading to the defeat of the current world system and the return of Jesus Christ to establish His kingdom on earth. Revelation predicts the future even as it gives hope for the present. It reveals the destiny of humanity, the new heaven and the new earth, where the long-lost paradise of Eden will finally be regained.

The theme of this book is restoration. All that humanity has lost by sinful rebellion against God will be regained by the grace of God and the ultimate triumph of Christ.

Let’s compare the first book of the Bible, Genesis to the last book, Revelation:

In Genesis the earth was created.            Revelation the earth passes away.

In Genesis satan’s first rebellion.            Revelation satan’s last rebellion.

In Genesis the sun, moon and stars were for earth’s government.

Revelation they are for earth’s judgment.

In Genesis the sun was to rule the day.   Revelation there is no need for the sun.

In Genesis the dark was called night.      Revelation there is no night.

In Genesis the water was called seas.      Revelation there are no seas.

In Genesis sin entered the world.            Revelation sin exits the world.

In Genesis the curse was announced.      Revelation the curse is removed.

In Genesis death entered                         Revelation there is no more death.

In Genesis was the beginning of sorrow and suffering.

Revelation there will be no more sorrow, no      tears.

In Genesis was Adam’s marriage.          Revelation the Last Adam, Christ is married.

In Genesis the City of Babylon was built.  Revelation, Babylon was destroyed, and    the New Jerusalem was brought into view.

In Genesis satan’s doom pronounced.     Revelation it was executed.

Introduction to Revelation. Part 1

 Introduction to Revelation. Part 1

When we look at the world today, we see a sad scenario. Everything about our leaders, our laws, our morals and the systems look like the devil is having a good time. Well, he is, and we wonder how it will turn out. Well, Guess what! God is in control and when we read the Book of Revelation, we will find out that everything will turn out all right. Someday God is going to send His Son, Jesus Christ to reign over the whole universe.

The Book of Revelation can be outlined in this order:

1.    The revelation of the glorified Christ.

2.    The church history is given.

3.    In chapter 3 the church goes to heaven and become the bride of Christ.

4.    The fourth chapter reveals Christ and His bride come to earth to establish His kingdom for 1,000 years.

5.    At the end of the 1,000 years Satan will be loosed from the pit where he has been imprisoned. His release, will be short lived.

6.    The final rebellion is put down and eternity begins.

J. Vernon McGee says that you need to read the whole Bible to understand the Book of Revelation. Of its 404 verses, 278 refers back to the Old Testamen. Those who say the Old Testament doesn’t apply today will not understand the revelations of John. John tells us of some of the prophecies tat began in other parts of the Bible For instance:

In Genesis 3:15 it introduces Jesus Christ as the seed of the woman. The Church began in Matthew 16:18. The resurrection is first mentioned in John 14. The Great Tribulation is mentioned in Deuteronomy 4. Satan and evil is found in Ezekiel 28:11-18. The “man of sin” is found in Ezekiel 28:1-10. The second coming of Christ is mentioned in Jude 14-15. Israel’s covenants are mentioned in Genesis 12:1-3. God promised Israel five things and the Book of Revelation says God will fulfill them all.

In Chapter 1 John reveals the person of Christ. He is no longer meek, lowly and humble as stated in the Gospels. Here He is in absolute control. He is still the Lamb of God but His wrath is revealed. His wrath comes out in judgment upon the earth.

Jude, The Truth Will Set You Free

Jude, The Truth Will Set You Free

Jude was a Jewish Christian. Many believed that he was the brother of Jesus and James. He writes a powerful defense of the Christian faith to challenge young believers to “contend earnestly for the faith.” His letter is a resounding call to action. The message is that quitting is out of the question, because the danger is too great, and the stakes are too high. If your soul is worn down, you need to read the book of Jude.

In today's society false prophets spout out that what was once called bad is now called good. Sexual immorality and free thinking runs rampant. Much tolerance is needed for us Christians. Tolerance means simply to recognize and respect others’ beliefs and practices without necessarily agreeing or sympathizing with them. This attitude, that everyone has a right to their own opinion, is what tolerance means to most people. The only opinion that matters is God's opinion. Anything outside of that is not to be tolerated by Christians. Parents today do not teach their children to embrace all people, but not their beliefs. It is respectful to listen and learn from people but we don't have to agree with them. In 1 Peter 3:15 it says” always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.” The key is to aggressively live in love and humbly stand up for the truth.

The closing words of Jude's letter is a praise to God. No matter what false teachers might try to do or say against God and His word, God will watch over his people. He alone will keep them from stumbling and present them “faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.” We praise him for this great promise. One day He will bring us to Himself and rejoice to have us with him. We can trust Him because He is “God our Savior, wise, glorious, majestic, and powerful forever.

3 John, Truth

3 John, Truth

John wrote this letter to his friend Gaius to encourage him in a difficult situation in his local church. Again, he concentrated on making God's truth a vital part of life.

Walking in truth. People could see the truth in Gaius because he loved it and walked in obedience to it, and that brought great joy to John. Every Christian parent can make this a prayer.

Working for truth. When you assist and encourage God's servants, you become a fellow worker with them in spreading the truth. Christian hospitality was important in those days and ought to be revived today.

Welcoming the truth. Can you imagine Diotrephes rejecting a message from the apostle John! He was so “separated” that he did not even receive John's friends. When we welcome God's people we welcome God's truth.

Witnessing for the truth. Not all church members are like Diotrephes there are people like Demetrius who love the truth and live it. They are the ones who make the local church healthy.

2 John, Love and Obedience

2 John   Love and Obedience

John writes this letter to the elect lady. We are not sure if this is a particular woman or if John is referring to the church as a lady. Regardless of who it is, John is thinking of that person or church which was extending hospitality to all those who profess to be Christian. Although some were heretics who denied the deity of Christ and his truth in the Word.

One truth exists and that truth is found in Jesus Christ who is “the way, the truth and the life.” John 14:6. John wrote this letter to help believers remain in the truth and not stray into false teachings. In order to resist false notions and ideas, believers must remain grounded in God's word. We must continue to walk in truth for then we will be able to see what is false and steer clear of it.

Jesus had warned that false teachers would arise and lead many people astray. False teachers will teach any number of doctrines that might sound good but are contradictory to God's word and, therefore are lies. Believers can discern false teachings by discovering what the teachers believe about Jesus Christ. Some will teach that Jesus did not actually come in the flesh; others will teach that Jesus was merely flesh and not God. If anyone contradicts the Bible's definition of Christ being both human and divine, then that person is a false teacher.

Loving God means obeying him. Consider how you would feel if God asked you to sacrifice your first and oldest son and he wanted it done tomorrow. Would you sleep that night? Would you plead with him, would you barter with him. Would you agonize all night trying to figure out how you can avoid this or would you like Abraham, put your faith and trust in God and commit to doing what God asked of you. Abraham probably agonized all night until he came to terms with his faith. When he went up that mountain with Isaac he had faith that he would come back down that that mountain with Isaac. He also had faith that God would provide the sacrificial lamb. Even Jesus Christ, Himself agonized the night before his crucifixion but he said “ not my will but your will be done, oh God.” How strong is your love for God? How strong is your faith?

1 John 5, Without a Doubt and Making Choices

1 John 5, Without a Doubt and Making Choices

Christians need have no doubts about their faith. Those who believe in the name of the Son of God can know that they have eternal life. Other religions offer merely the hope of eternal life, if one has been good enough, done more good deeds than bad, or has sacrificed enough for others. Christians, however, can know for sure that they will be with Christ forever in heaven. We may face doubts, difficulties, and times of spiritual dryness, but through it all, we can know that we have eternal life, now and forever.

God promises those who believe and are baptized eternal life. He also promises a continuing relationship with His people. “If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” Believers have the ultimate guide to walk them through life, helping them make right decisions.

How can believers know God’s will as they make decisions? First, they should consider whether they truly want to know what God wants and if they truly want to follow His leadership. Then they should pray and study God’s Word for guidance. The Holy Spirit will help them interpret what God is doing in and around them in the decision-making process. Believers learn how to seek God’s will, asking not what they want, but what He wants for them. When the answer comes, believers know it and can act upon it.

Whatever decisions we face, large or small, God will guide us. We need only to ask Him, truly seeking His will and He will answer.

The promise that we will have whatever we ask is not a blank check. Believers cannot merely pray for anything and then get it. The context refers to prayers, “according to His will.” In other words, when we pray, we seek God’s will in the matter. We make our request, but we submit to God’s wisdom about what we should have. We know that when we pray, God hears and will answer in the best possible way.

1 John 4, Love Story

1 John 4, Love Story.

There are two types of people in this world, Christians and non-Christians. Christians worship God; non-Christians, no matter what they say, worship satan. They may not formally be members of the occult religion, but their refusal to accept Christ puts them on satan's side. Satan is already a defeated enemy, so believers can continue their work for God's Kingdom fearlessly. For as powerful as satan’s army appears to be, Christ is greater by far. “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”

God authored the concept of love. When people become believers, they learn how to “love one another” because the spirit within shows them how as they yield to His leading. Christian relationships ought to be the most loving in the world. Christians who meet each other for the first time experience a bond of love that transcends understanding. The love that binds Christians makes for solid and eternal relationships. The love relationships reveal God in us.

No one has ever seen God, but God reveals himself to the world through his frail and imperfect people by perfecting His love in them. As believers go into the world living their faith, they reveal God to everyone they meet. Their love reveals God's presence in their lives. When believers show love toward one another and to the unbelieving world, God makes Himself known and his love is “perfected” in them. God often shows His love through His people. What does our love for others say on God's behalf?

When believers hate one another, they certainly are not showing love. At times a critical spirit will cause believers’ relationships to become strained as they judge each other. Believers will always disagree on some matters, but they should still be able to celebrate their unity in Christ. Those with critical spirits, however, will be unable to love others. If they cannot love their fellow believers whom they can see, how can they possibly love the invisible God? Believers who claim to love God but hate others are lying to themselves, God, and everyone else.

1John 3, God's Love

1 John 3, God’s Love

No one can love more than God. The thought of God's astounding love bestowed on sinful humanity is beyond understanding. It's incomprehensible that while we were still sinners in rebellion against God, Christ died for us. Through that sacrifice, God brought his own to himself, bestowing the title and relationship of “children.” He allows us to call him Father. No believer should ever feel alone, worthless or unimportant. Everyone who has faith in Christ is a beloved child of God!

People say “I love you” in many ways besides speaking the words. In fact, while words are important, saying words without backing them up with actions will make the words meaningless. Jesus wrote to believers, “Let us not love in Word or in tongue, but indeed and in truth.”

When expressing love to a spouse, children, or dear friends, we should consider their “language.” Certainly, they will understand the words, but they will hear the message better through certain kinds of actions. For some people, their love language is physical touch; for others a gift will show love; still others would prefer to have quality time. As we learn what “language” our loved ones speak, we then can add to our words the deeds that will show our love.

To understand true love, we need only to look at the Cross, where Christ performed the ultimate act of love. Christ loved us so much that he died for us. This should motivate us to love others. This means not just saying we love people but really loving them by our actions. We can love our families by showing respect, patience, and understanding in many ways. We can love our neighbors as we reach out in kindness. We can love the needy of the world by sharing our possessions with them. Loving actions reveal the truth and depth of our love.

1 John 2, Love One Another

1 John 2, Love One Another

As Christians we are joint heirs with Jesus Christ to the Eternal kingdom. Notice that John does not say we cannot sin, but he is writing to us so that we may not sin. God wants us to walk in a manner that is pleasing to Him, in obedience to Him. It is our relationship to Him that is most important. Our Salvation rests upon what Christ has done for us. It is a finished work, and nothing can be added to it. When we do sin we have an advocate. Another word for advocate is comforter. The Holy Spirit is our comforter down here and Christ is our comforter up there. He intercedes for us. He goes to our Heavenly Father and pleads our case for us all while satan is making accusations against us. The Holy Spirit brings conviction to us so that we will confess our sin to the Father. A sincere child of God wants to please Him in every way. We are in the family of God. He wants to fellowship with us. When we do, we walk in the light. He also wants us to walk in Love with each other. We have assurance that we are part of His family when we obey His commandments. Some of those commandments are “Bear you one another burdens.” Gal. 6:2. “Rejoice ever more.” He wants us to be joyful. “Pray without ceasing”. Have a prayerful attitude.e “Quench not the Spirit.” Don’t say “no” to God. A child of God not only wants to obey the commandments of God, but he also wants to please the Father in everything he does.

We cannot do or be all that Jesus Christ did or was, but if we are walking in God’s will, then we are walking in the same manner as Jesus walked. If you Love God, you can’t help but keep His word. He gave us no new commandment. It is the same one Jesus gave His apostles that “you love one another, as I have loved you.” John 13:34. This commandment becomes a new commandment to new believers. God loves everyone and so should we, not just friends, family and other Christians. That doesn’t mean there won’t be things about others that we dislike, that is understandable. But to hate another reveal that we are in darkness and our relationship with Christ is not as it should be. Christianity is based on a Love relationship. Salvation is a Love affair. We Love God, because He first Loved us.

I john1, Fellowship with God.

I John 1, Fellowship with God

The Apostle John wrote this book. He was known as the “Son of thunder” because of his fiery temper. After he met Jesus, he was transformed into a loving, caring man. He became known as the Godly counselor and comforter.

John wrote his three letters to those who were unstable in their faith. His goal was to affirm believers’ faith with certainty and so they can have assurance in their salvation. He described the Christian life as an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.

Although God created people to be good and holy, He also gave them the choice to disobey and they did. Since the first sin, all people have been born with a sin nature. God is holy, and He cannot have a relationship with sinful people, unless something is done about sin. But instead of sending punishment upon sinful human beings, God took the punishment Himself: “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8. Through His death Christ paid the penalty for sin so that we could have a relationship with God.

The problem is that we still have our sin natures. We still sin, but we can come to God to be forgiven. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we confess, God forgives, because His Son paid the penalty. We will never be completely sinless in this life, but as believers our lives should be characterized by the desire to follow Christ and avoid sin.

2 Peter 5, Give it to God

2 Peter 5, Give it to God

Discouragement often occurs when people shoulder their own worries, cares, and fears, and then begin to collapse under the weight. Discouragement is not a godly attitude because it reveals an unwillingness to trust God. Discouragement can be dealt a death blow, when we constantly cast all our cares upon God, because he cares for us.

Casting our cares on God takes a great amount of trust and humility. We need to give him all our cares, not just the ones we think are big enough or important enough. God will even shoulder the cares that we have brought upon ourselves, we can give them all to him. His shoulders are big enough to carry all our fears, worries, and troubles. When we give our cares to God, we can brush off our discouragement and get back to work. We have much to do for God!

The moment a person becomes a Christian. Satan tries to make them ineffective through struggles and discouragement or suffering. Believers must be sober and vigilant, resisting satan by remaining “steadfast in the faith.” This is a strong defensive action, Satan is a defeated enemy, so believers need not fear him. When we resist satan, he will flee (James 4: 7). We resist satan through maintaining our steadfast faith in Christ, wearing the armor that God provides (Ephesians 6: 10- 20), and remembering that we are not alone in our suffering. The same sufferings are being experienced by believers everywhere. Through these sufferings, we will “establish, strengthen, and settle” His people.

2 Peter 2, False Teachers

2 Peter 2 False Teachers

Peter didn't leave much room for doubt about how he perceived false teachers. As these evil men infiltrated the churches, bringing with them their false teachings, wrong motives and sinful lifestyles, they harmed many believers. They claimed to be followers of Christ, having heard the gospel message, but then they distorted that message. Peter wrote that “it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment.”

Peter did not say that believers should be tolerant and understanding of these false teachers. He did not say that the false teachers should be treated carefully and lovingly. Instead, he called them evil and commanded believers not to be deceived by them.

Overall, believers should be tolerant, accepting people from many different races and backgrounds. This is vital for the growth of the church. But we should not tolerate anyone who teaches what is opposed to God's word.

2 Peter 1, God's Promises and Values

2 Peter 1, God’s Promises and Values.

When God looks at believers, He sees His people as righteous, and He bestows upon them “exceedingly great and precious promises.” Because God is faithful and trustworthy, we know that what He says in his word will surely come to pass. His promises of salvation and transformation, and glorification will come true for all believers. God’s promises of punishment and eternal separation will also come true for those who reject Him. Because of God’s promises, we can be confident about the present and the future. God is in control, and He always keeps His promises.

What people value says much about their character. Some people value possessions, positions, power or wealth. The values listed here in this chapter reveals a persons spiritual character. Believers who desire to mature in their faith and be fruitful for Christ will value, virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, kindness and love. Christ gives us His divine nature, but we are responsible to use that nature to set aside sinful desires and follow Him. We have to value Christ above all else.

Peter knew he was dying and he faced death calmly. He wanted to make sure believers had a reminder of the gospel message that had brought them salvation, and of the power of God that had brought them true life. Believers should live each day remembering the power of God and sharing with others. If we had to say our last words today, what would we say to our loved ones?
