Romans
13– Government
Governments
are put in place by God. At times they are peaceful and helpful to their
subjects; at other times they are harmful. Rome under Ceasar’s rule was no
exception. The Roman peace created outward tranquility, but at time people
would be persecuted or dealt with unjustly. Today’s situation is much the same,
and so is Paul’s advice. “Be subject to the governing authorities.” Obey the
laws; pay taxes and honor leaders. This does not mean following the law of the
land when it is against God’s will, but it does mean being a respectful,
law-abiding citizen. After all, our witness for Christ is at stake.
Examples:
Daniel did not eat the King’s food.
Esther
entered the Kings chamber and saved her people.
Moses’
parents put him in a basket and hid him.
