II
Kings 20. Hezekiah’s Illness
It
must have been a difficult task for Isaiah to deliver a death sentence to
Hezekiah, the king.
“And
as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Heb.
9:27.
Hezekiah
turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord. Only God could help him.
Hezekiah reminded the Lord that he had walked before Him in truth and with a
perfect heart, and he had done that which was good in His sight. The Lord had
seen Hezekiah’s tears.
God
used natural means to raise up Hezekiah, but He also used supernatural means.
They put figs on the “boil” and then God said, “I am going to add fifteen years
to your life.”
Hezekiah
did a foolish thing during those fifteen years. He let the ambassadors from
Babylon see the treasure that Solomon had gathered.
Hezekiah
was big-hearted. Babylon had sent him a get-well card, and so he gives these
men from Babylon a guided tour of his kingdom. He showed them everything. When
they wanted to get the treasure, they knew where to go. This is what is going
to happen to Hezekiah’s offspring.
