Let
the Lower Lights Be Burning
I have never been to a lighthouse, but I understand how the concept
could be compared to God’s mercy. His mercy is unending and it shines as far
and as bright as a lighthouse. He wants us to share that mercy with Him and
with others. Mercy means not getting what we deserve. None of us deserve God’s
mercy but because He gives it as a gift, all we have to do is accept it and
extend it to others that don’t deserve it either but need it. Let us be aware
of the people God puts before us. It may be some poor struggling soul that
needs saved.
Lyrics by Philip P. Bliss, arranged by Phillip P. Bliss
“Brightly beams our Father’s mercy from His lighthouse
evermore, but to us He gives the keeping of the lighthouse along the shore.
Dark the night of sin has settled, loud the angry billows
roar; Eager eyes are watching, longing, for the lights along the shore.
Trim your feeble lamp, my brother, some poor sailor
tempest tossed, trying now to make the harbor, in the darkness may be lost.
Let the lower lights be burning! Send a gleam across the
wave! Some poor fainting, struggling seaman you may rescue, you may save.
