Isaiah
46 – God Carries Us
When
Babylon fell, the images of Bel (means lord) and his son Nebo would be carried
away into exile, unable to rescue their city from their enemies. The Lord will
continue to carry and deliver His people (Deut.32:11)
God
is in control, there is no other. He can declare how history will end because
He will actively intervene in the world to accomplish His plan for the nations
and for His people. (Num. 23:19; Ps. 33:11).
Isaiah
speaks to the Babylonians and warns them that judgment is coming because of
their many sins.
He
begins with their idolatry and contrasts Jehovah with the gods of Babylon. The
idols must be carried, but God carries His people. The false gods cannot
predict the future or control history, but Jehovah does both. The idols are alike,
but Jehovah is the only true God and there is none like Him. Rejoice that you
can worship the true and living God.
There
is nothing which compares to God. The only way we can translate God into human
language is through His Son Jesus Christ, who came to earth as a human to
reveal who God is. God does not want us to carry Him around like man-made
idols. He wants to carry us. I Peter 5:7 “Cast all your cares upon Him, for He
cares for you.”
