Jeremiah
6 – Jeremiah Warned Israel
Jeremiah
saw the invasion coming and warned the people, but they would not listen to
him. Jerusalem would be ruined, the sun would go down, and the harvest of sin
would be reaped.
He
saw the sickness and wounds of the nation and pointed to God as the only source
of healing. The false prophets gave a superficial diagnosis and a false remedy,
which led the nation into judgment (lam. 2:14). Beware of religious teachers
who look only at the surface and never get to the heart of the problem.
Jeremiah
saw the people wondering which way to go. The “new religions” confused them, so
he called them back to God’s word. Seek “the old paths” of the word, not to try
to repeat “the good old days”, but to go forward to do God’s will in your day.
Jeremiah’s
words were like a fire that separated the precious metal from the dross. But
the people chose to be cheap alloy instead of precious gold and silver.
All
of God’s judgments were in vain.
Jeremiah
told them what God said, “you have rejected my law, and I will reject you and
when I reject you, the men of the world are going to reject you also.” It
worked out on Jeremiah’s day and it is working out in our day. Our nation is
making enemies of other countries and we are coming upon the final conflict. We
must pray constantly for that revival that we are so much in need of. Pray
always for our nation and for the nation of Israel.
