Jeremiah
16 – The Days are Numbered.
The
Lord told Jeremiah that the days of Judah are numbered. He is having Jeremiah
tell the people not to marry or have children in the land as there will come a
time when Judah will be destroyed, and all the women and children will die a
gruesome death.
In
Psalm 137, it told how King Nebuchadnezzar came and took the Israelites into
captivity to Babylon and when they did they took the children and bashed their
heads against the stones.
Even
so, there was a future to look forward to. God told them that even though they
may be taken into captivity, He will come back and get them and take them back
to their homeland. So, even though Judah was facing dark days, there was a
light at the end of the tunnel just as there is for us.
We
have the assurance that someday Christ will return and take us home with Him. We
may experience hard times on earth, but there is a light at the end of the
tunnel.
In
the discouraging hours of life, God is working out His purposes, so take refuge
in Him.
Jeremiah
17 – The Engraver
When
we sin, we write it on our hearts. And only God can erase it when we repent and
trust Him. He writes His word on our hearts so we will get victory over sin.
The altar was to be a place of remitting sin, not recording sin; but their sins
were engraved even there.
Faith
in the Lord makes you a deeply rooted tree that survives the drought. Faith in
man makes you a shrub in the desert.
The
heart is “sick”, and only the Great Physician can diagnose its problems and
bring the necessary healing.
The
throne of Judah had decayed, but because the prophet saw God’s glorious throne
on high, he had hope. God’s throne room is our sanctuary, and He welcomes us to
come and get help we need.
