Numbers 24
More of Balaam
The
Spirit of God came upon this man, Balaam, and he blessed the Israelites with
the prophecy of God. There was sin in
the camp of Israel, but God had dealt with that. The sins had been forgiven. All that Balaam
can do is bless them and send praises their way.
Be
sure, that Satan cannot bring a charge against God’s elect. Romans 8:33-34. “If God be for us, who can be
against us?” Romans 8:31. God has
already declared them righteous.
Of
course, Balak is angry, he was not satisfied with Balaam’s prophecies, but
Balaam reminds him that he cannot prophesy anything beyond the commandment of
the Lord.
Balaam
prophesied about a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel.
The prophecy of Balaam was retained, since Balaam was considered a outstanding
prophet in the east, and the wise men knew his prophecy. When they saw the
remarkable star, they remembered that Balaam had said those words. There they
followed the star to the birth of Jesus in the manger.
Satan
and his followers do their best to curse God’s people today. However, through it all, God’s grace still
works, God’s people are still blessed, and God’s name is glorified, for God can
turn the curse into a blessing.
