II Chronicles 29 – God’s Viewpoint of Hezekiah’s Reign
Hezekiah
came to the kingdom for such a time as this because he is God’s man. Apparently, Hezekiah had a godly grandmother and grandfather, and they influenced him.
He
trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among
all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him. He kept the commandments
which the Lord committed to Moses. And the Lord was with him, and he prospered.
Of
the twenty-one kings of Judah who followed David, there was none greater than
Hezekiah. God took great delight in Hezekiah. Three times in the Word of God we
are told about this man and the great return to God which he led.
As
soon as Hezekiah began to reign, he opened the doors of the temple. They were
open for the first time in a long time. Now Hezekiah told them to clean
everything and to sanctify themselves. There had to be a return to holy living,
to honesty, and integrity. There had to be a setting-apart for God.
Hezekiah
set a good example. He took a public stand for God.
God’s
people need to take a public stand for God.
The
priest’s made an atonement for all Israel with the burnt offerings and sin
offering. Music was again brought into the worship in the temple. There was
singing and instrumental music as David had organized it. The whole
congregation sang praises to God and worshiped Him.
