Job 5- Eliphaz Continues His Speech.

 

Man is born unto trouble, no one is exempt. We are trying to achieve peace in the world without the Prince of Peace. Therefore, trouble comes to man, and the righteous do suffer, and the children of God do have trouble today.

Sometimes trouble comes to a child of God because of a stupid blunder. Sometimes it is a judgment of the Father upon his child. Sometimes it is a discipline of the Father.

Saul of Tarsus, the proud young Pharisee came to know Christ, and God said of him, “For I will show you how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake.” Acts 9:16

Trouble comes to us sometimes for the purpose of teaching us to be patient and to trust God. “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” James 1:3

At other times trouble comes to us because God is putting the sandpaper on us to smooth out the rough edges. “But He knows the way that I take: when he had tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” Job 23:10

Sometimes God permits trouble to come to us to get our minds and hearts fastened on Him. God is faithful and God is good, and God is just.

Eliphaz said to Job, “You are having trouble because you’ve done wrong, and God is correcting you.”

We cannot always speak to the problem of someone else, and someone else cannot always speak to your problem either. Although the statement of Eliphaz is true, it does not apply to Job.

Then Eliphaz states 7 troubles God will deliver him from. 1. In redemption of death, 2. In war. 3. The scourge of the tongue. 4. Fear of destruction. 5. In famine. 6. From the beasts of the earth. 7. In death.

All of this has not met the needs of Job.

Job reacts with a cry for pity. He cries out for mercy and for help because Eliphaz was of no help to him at all.

Eliphaz Speaks. Job 4

 

Job 4 -Eliphaz Speaks

 

Satan has stripped Job of everything. He has nothing left to lean on, no place to turn. Even God seems very far removed from him at this time.

Eliphaz says to Job, “Do you mind if I say something?” Then he adds, “regardless of whether or not you mind my saying something, I am going to say it.” “In the old days when you were in prosperity and plenty and in good health, you were a tower of strength to everybody else. You could advise them.” The advice you gave to others, can’t you follow it yourself?” He goes on to say this would not have happened to you if there hadn’t been something wrong in your life that you was keeping a secret.” This insinuation is wrong and is not true of Job. God gave us that scene in heaven so that we might know Job and understand his character. Eliphaz is speaking from a very high pulpit and is looking down at Job. He is saying that Job is reaping what he sowed. The man is wrong. God disciplines his children, but He never destroys them.

Eliphaz said that he had a vision, and it took place at night, in the dark. Then he asks, “Shall a mortal man be more just than God?” Of course not, we know that. “How much more foolish are we who live in houses of clay?” We live in houses of clay. In 2 Cor. 5 Paul called our bodies a tent, a feeble, frail tent which the wind will blow over. We live in houses of clay, and before long our houses fall in on us. Eliphaz is stating truths that are not helpful to Job.  He reminds me of someone who likes to hear his own voice.

Eliphaz further states that no one who had lived in the past was able to help and asks Job which saint is he going to turn to? He goes on to say that he has seen the foolish and the wicked prosper but finally they are brought down.

 

King David was troubled by the prosperity of the wicked. He stated, “I have seen the wicked in power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not. Psalm 37:35-35.

Eliphaz was classifying Job as one of the foolish one who took root and was flourishing before he was brought down.

Job 3. Job Talks

 

After sitting in silence with his friends for seven days, Job begins to speak. In essence he says, “I wish I hadn’t been born.” One may wish that they could die, but they will not die by wishing. Knowing that, Job goes on to say that he wishes he had been born stillborn. He describes death as a great equalizer. All sleep equally. Job finds no relief from his misery.

 

He claims that life is such a burden. He would welcome death like a miner who is digging for gold and gives a shout of joy when he finds it.

 

Job had been dwelling in peace and prosperity in the land of Uz, and things had been going well with him. Everyone was saying, “Look at Job. He certainly has a wonderful life.” Job says, “At that very moment, I was living in fear. And the thing that I dreaded has come upon me.”

 

That is a fear of a great many people. They fear that something terrible is going to happen to them. Instead of turning to other things. We need to rest upon the Word of God.

 

Job has not lost his faith. He just doesn’t understand why trouble has come upon him and doesn’t understand at all why it should have come.

 

When trouble does come upon us, instead of saying why me, Lord. Ask the Lord what it is He wants you to learn from this. Remember God has a plan for You and it is the perfect plan.

Satan Reports Again to God. Job 2

 

Job 2 – Satan Reports again to God

 

There was another day that the sons of God and Satan came before the Lord in heaven. All of us will have to report to God some day at the judgment seat of Christ. (2 Cor. 5:10). God is our Creator, we must answer to Him. Satan is not beyond the jurisdiction of God.

What the Lord allowed Satan to do with Job was done without a cause in Job. People are always saying, “Why did God let this happen to me? Perhaps He is not spanking you or punishing you, but just wants to bring you closer to Him. I would never want to go through what Job had to suffer! The Lord tells Satan that Job is still serving Me and has maintained his integrity.

“There has been no temptation taken you but such is common to man, but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.” I Cor. 10:13.

Satan said that Job would give anything for his own body and gets permission from God to touch his bone and flesh. Job has lost his finances, his family, and now his physical body is being attacked. It is when we are under trial that we reveal our true metal. Job had sore boils and he scraped it with a potsherd, (broken pottery). His wife suggests to him to curse God and die. That is strange advice coming from a wife.  Still Job maintained his integrity.

Eliphaz, a Temanite. Bildad, a Shuhite, and Zophar a Naamathite came to mourn with Job. They were real good friends to Job until this happened. They were sure of their reasons for this happening. They thought they knew why, but they were entirely wrong. They mourned and wept for seven days and didn’t say a word. They all came to the same conclusion. Job must be an awful sinner for these things to happen to him. God must be punishing him. He had better get his life straightened out. This is the conclusion of each of them. Job disagrees whole heartedly.

Job 1 – Drama in Heaven and Earth                                                                                                                                     

We are told that Job was perfect in his relation to God in the sense that he had offered the sacrifices. Job feared God. He had a family of ten children. He was very wealthy, and they all lived in luxury and ease. He had camels for transportation and female donkeys for milk. Job felt that he was right with God. But he thought that maybe these sons and daughters weren’t as close to God as they should be, so he offered sacrifices for them. He was the high priest in his family.

In heaven the sons of God come before Him, and Satan also comes. Satan must make a report. He has as much access to this earth as we do. He says, he has been going up and down on this earth.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” I Peter 5:8.

God is overruling all things, but He has given Satan a period of freedom. God speaks of Job to Satan and says he is an outstanding man. Satan replies, “you have put a hedge around him, and I can’t touch him.”

There is a hedge around every believer today, and Satan cannot touch you unless God permits it. If God took down that hedge from us, we would be tempted to curse God. Sometimes God permits Satan to take away from us those things we lean on. God grants permission to Satan to take all of Job’s possessions from him.

Job’s children went to a banquet everyday and one day the Sabeans came in and took away their cattle. Then all his children were killed. This man lost everything in one day.

Job falls, and he worships God, he rent his mantle and shaved his head. He said, “The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Everything down here is His, and we are just using them. When we leave, we won’t be taking anything with us. Job understood this, and he did not lose his faith.

Esther 9 & 10– The Feast of Purim

 

The Jews prepare themselves for the attack. The king’s new decree is protecting them, so they get everything ready to defend themselves. Mordecai is by the side of the King.

 

The throne of God protects us today. Christ is at the right hand of God. He is interceding for us. “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” Heb. 4:16.

 

God has sent out a decree to a lost world. John 1:12 says, “But as many as received Him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name.”

 

The Israelites faith in the king’s decree brought deliverance. So, they called the days Purim and had a feast. The feast of purim is a celebration of gladness, that celebrates the fact that God has delivered them according to the promise that He made to Abraham. “I will bless those who bless thee, and curse those who curse thee. Genesis 12:3

 

They prayed a threefold prayer which thanked Jehovah that they were counted worthy and to thank Him for preserving their ancestors, and to thank Him that they have lived to enjoy another festival.

A New Decree Esther 8

 

Esther 8 A New Decree

 

Although Haman is dead, the threat of death still hangs over every Jew. Because the decree is a law of the Medes and Persians it cannot be changed.

Esther lets it be known that Mordecai was her adoptive father. She tells him of Mordecai but also pleads for the Jews. She said, “let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman to destroy the Jews.

Then the king’s scribes were brought in, and letters were written according to all that Mordecai commanded to the Jews. They were written in every language of the kingdom. He wrote it in King Xerxes name and sealed it with the king’s ring.

The original decree is not altered in any way. But the new decree feels their hearts with joy and gladness. They can now fight and save their lives. If they receive the message in time, and believe it, they can be saved.

 

“If God be for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31.

This may be the last time you will have the opportunity to accept Christ as Savior. Now is the accepted time to believe.

 

Haman’s decree produced sorrow, and the king’s decree produced joy.

 

Jesus is the Light of the world. He also is gladness, and joy, and honor of the world. Come to Christ and He will give you something to be glad about.
