Lead,
Kindly Light
How many sleepless nights have you had pondering past
mistakes, feeling guilt and shame. Or anticipating what will happen tomorrow?
There might be something you are anxious about outside your comfort zone. Most
of the time our anxiety that we bring on ourselves turns out to either not happen
or once it does, you wonder why I was so worried? When I pray, I ask God to
lead me to the light, let me live minute by minute, holding my focus toward Him.
When our focus is on self, we don’t do well. When we focus on God, we trust Him
to go with us, to guide us and protect us.
Lyrics by John H. Newman, arranged by John H. Dykes
“Lead, kindly light, amid the encircling gloom, lead Thou
me on! The night is dark, and I am far from home; Lead Thou me on! Keep Thou my
feet; I do not ask to see the distant scene; one step enough for me.
I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou should lead me on; I loved to choose and see
my path; but now Lead Thou me on! I loved the garish day, and spite of fears,
pride ruled my will, remember not past years!
So long Thy power has blessed me, sure it still will lead
me on over moor and fen, over crag and torrent, till the night is gone, and
with the morn those angel faces smile, which I have loved long since, and lost
a while!
