Master, The Tempest is Raging
There are so many natural disasters in this world, that
each of us have experienced one kind or another. We probably wondered whether
this was it, the last day on earth. We might have wondered where God was in it
and feared He wasn’t listening to our prayers. With a troubled heart, we think
about our life and the sins we committed. Take heart, God is the whisper in the
storm. He promised never to leave us or forsake us. We can rest easy when the
storm passes and He assured us that He was there all along. He is always there
to save. He has a place prepared for us for just that purpose. Whether we are
saved for heaven or earth, God’s plans are perfect in every way.
Lyrics by Mary A. Baker, arranged by Horatius R. Palme
“Master the tempest is raging! The billows are tossing
high! The sky is overshadowed with blackness; no shelter or help is night;
Carest thou not that we perish? How canst Thou lie asleep, when each moment so
madly is threatening a grave in the angry deep!
Master, with anguish spirit I bow in my grief today; The
depths of my sad heart are troubled; O waken and save, I pray! Torrents of sin
and of anguish sweep over my sinking soul and I perish! I perish, dear Master;
O hasten and take control!
Master, the terror is over, the elements sweetly rest;
Earth’s sun in the calm lake is mirrored, and heavens within my breast.
Linger, O blessed Redeemer, leave me alone no more; And with joy I shall make
the blest harbor, and rest on the blissful shore.
The winds and the waves shall obey Thy will. Peace be
still! Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea, or demons, or men, or
whatever it be, no water can swallow the ship where lies the Master of ocean
and earth and skies; They all shall sweetly obey Thy will, peace, peace be
still!”
