Ecclesiastes
11 – The Value of Diligence
Because
life between earth and eternity is uncertain, Solomon encourages the faithful
to be diligent in their relationship and involvements while they can, being benevolent,
bold, and strong for the Lord, and working hard every day.
Solomon
owned a fleet of merchant ships (I Kings 9:26-28) that helped add to his
wealth. Life is like that; You must launch out by faith if you hope to get
anywhere. Limiting yourself to one ship may lead to disaster, so trust God to
guide you in several endeavors.
The
weather is rarely right for what the farmer wants to do, but he does it anyway.
You cannot explain the growth of the unborn child, but that does not stop people
from having families.
It
is important to never take for granted the coming of a new day. Just because a
person is here today does not guarantee tomorrow or that the world will be the
same. One of the realities of this earth is that life can change in an instant.
Solomon
encourages youth to enjoy life instead of enduring it as they wait to get to
the next phase. Yet he also reminds them that all their actions will be judged.
In the end, even childhood and youth are vanity. (Psalm 39:5)
