Drunkenness

Drunkenness

Ephesians 5:18

According to the Webster dictionary drunkenness means: Saturated with liquid, given to habitual excessive use of alcohol, unsteady or lurching as if from alcoholic intoxication.

In the Bible, drunkenness refers to the state of being intoxicated by alcohol, leading to impaired judgement and behavior. It is often portrayed as a vice that results in moral and spiritual decay (Galatians 5:19-21) and is linked to other sinful behaviors such as debauchery and idolatry. Additionally, drunkenness serves as a metaphor for spiritual confusion and helplessness in times of calamity (Job 12:25: Isaiah 19:14. The Bible condemns drunkenness, urging believers to remain sober-minded and vigilant (I Peter 5:8).

“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.” Ephesians 5:18
