Excuses
Luke
14:15-24
How would
you feel if you had a party and everyone you invited had an excuse not to come?
What if it
were Jesus inviting you into His home, His heart? What would be your excuse not
to come? He invites you to follow Him.
Did you just
get married, and your new bride is your priority? Do you have animals to tend
to or new land to cultivate? These were the excuses of those invited to the
master’s house for dinner in Luke 14:15-24.
Understandably
the master got angry. Fortunately for those on the highways and byways, the
food was not gone to waste.
Jesus has
many followers, but He particularly wants you to follow Him. He wants you to
come into His home, His heart.
Not going to
a person’s dinner doesn’t sound like much but following Jesus, answering His
invitation with a “yes” is the difference between life in heaven or eternity in
hell.
What happens
when you follow Jesus? First, following His words in the Bible gives one a
sense of who He is and what He does. Following Him through prayer gives a feeling
of building a relationship with Him. Following Him in worship and praise gives
you a heart for God and the Holy Spirit. Following Him in baptism gives you a
direct path to salvation.
What could
be more important than following Jesus in all these ways straight to
heaven. What is your excuse?
Please
read the scriptures listed, study them, apply them to your life and grow in the
saving relationship with Jesus Christ our Savior.
