Communion
It’s not very often that we hear a sermon on Communion.
It’s not only important for us adults to know why Communion is important but
it’s important for our children to know why we take it, who is it for, and What
is the meaning of Communion.
Shouldn’t we as teachers tell our children that communion
is more than crackers and juice? It is a consecration (the separation of
oneself from things that are unclean, especially anything that would
contaminate our relationship with God). It is an event that is shared among
fellow believers who had buried their sins in the watery grave of baptism and
devoted their self to God who will do His work in us.
Acts 2:42 “They were continually devoting themselves to
the apostles teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and prayer.”
I Corinthians 10:16 “Is not the cup of blessing which we
bless sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing
in the body of Christ?”
I Corinthians 11:24 “and when He had given thanks, He
broke it and said, “this is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance
of me.”
I Corinthians 11:26 “For as often as you eat this bread
and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.”
