Holiness

Holiness

I Peter 1:13-16

“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, be holy, for I am holy.”

To be holy means to be dedicated or devoted to God. Jesus was totally devoted to His Father and is our prime example to follow in our quest for holiness. We as Christians, His children, must be willing to give up our worldly ways and be totally dedicated in following Jesus and in spreading the good news of salvation to those around us. We may not always have the words to speak but we can be a good example of one dedicated to the Lord.

To prepare ourselves we must learn the scriptures, read His words and get to know Him. Talk to Him in prayer, give Him our concerns and lean on Him to help us in time of need and find comfort in our despair. Seek out fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and encourage one another. We are never alone in this world. Jesus is always a breath away. His Holy Spirit dwells within us making it easier to be holy and set aside for God’s purposes. Be holy, for God is holy.

Happiness

Happiness

Matthew 5:3-12

The word “Beatitude” means supreme blessedness. Just that alone makes me happy. But knowing whatever circumstances are Jesus blesses us.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” When we mourn, Jesus tells us that we will be comforted. The meek will inherit the earth. Those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. If we are merciful, we shall receive mercy. If we are pure in heart, we will see God. Happiness abounds! If we are peacemakers, we will be called sons of God. How can we not be happy, knowing these words that Jesus spoke on the Sermon on the Mount. He even went on to say that if we are reviled and persecuted and people say false things against us for His sake, we are still blessed and should be glad because we will receive our reward in heaven.

Happiness creates positive thoughts, and positive thoughts create positive behavior. Let us rejoice and put on a happy face. Let others see Jesus in us.

Godliness

Godliness

Titus 2:11-14

“For the grace of God that brings salvation to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” Titus 2:11-14

It is only by the grace of God that we live and breathe today. He has set us apart as His children to do good and to serve Him. To serve others in love and kindness. Some day when Christ returns, we will stand before the throne and give account for all that we have done here on earth. What will be God’s response to our account? Will He say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Or will He say, “I do not know you, because you have not made the effort to get to know Me.”

To live a godly life means to give up all the worldly things of this world. We might be in this world, but we don’t have to be part of this world. We must give up all the things that causes us to sin and strive to be right with God. If you are a child of God, then you are His own special people, and He will someday take you to the place He has prepared for you. If you are not His child, but belong to Satan, then it is time to mend your ways and turn to Christ for redemption. He is waiting for you with open arms.

Fruitfulness

Fruitfulness

John 15:1-8

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in Me.

I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit, for without Me you can do nothing.

If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”

John 15:4-7

“By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” John 15:8

When good things happen to us, we must praise the Lord, for all good things come from the Lord. We cannot accomplish anything without God. He is the giver of all and supplies us even with the air we breathe. To live is to bear fruit. To bear fruit is to serve God and respectfully praise Him for all the blessings we have. Let us not be like the branch that withers and dies. Let us go forth and receive the crown of Jewels God has waiting for us in heaven.

Freedom

Freedom

John 8:31-36

“If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31,32

“Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever. Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:35,36

How can we know God’s truth if we don’t know His words? And how can we know if we are sinning if we do not know God’s commandments. We are all sinners but in James 4:17 it says,” Therefore to him that knows to do good and doesn’t do it, to him it is sin.” In John 3:6 it says, “No one who continues to sin has either seen Him or known Him.” That person is a slave to sin and will not abide in God’s house.

We must always strive to know what God’s words are and be obedient to them. The more we know, the less we sin, and we are free to live in God’s kingdom forever.

Forgiveness

Forgiveness

Mark 11:25,26, Ephesians 4:31,32

“And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against him, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, then neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:25,26

“Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:31,32

When Christ died on the cross, he did it to forgive us our sins. When we don’t forgive others their sins we are discounting what Christ did for us. He didn’t forgive only those who are worthy of forgiveness, He did it for all people. For the rich and the poor, the most sinful and the saintliest and all those in between. If we can’t forgive others, He won’t forgive us. Open your heart, be forgiving and loving one another.

Faithfulness

Faithfulness

Matthew 25:23

“His Lord said to him, well done, good and faithful servant, you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

The most precious thing we could hear from our Lord when we die is “well done, good and faithful servant.” Those words I long to hear from the Lord. While I am still on earth though, the rest of the scripture baffles me. I want to be a good and faithful servant and never be weary of doing good. However, there is a time when we might have to ask ourselves if the things we are doing are from God or did we take on the task ourselves. Sometimes we might start out with a ministry from God but somewhere along the road we picked up things that God didn’t give us, things that people have asked us to do. We need to discern what is from God and what is from man. If we don’t, our ministry can soon feel like it is more of a job. Have you ever considered the story about the man with the wheelbarrow? It goes like this..

One day God appeared to this man, and He asked him if he could carry a pebble up the mountain in his wheelbarrow. Sure, the man replied, that will be easy. The man heads up the mountain and a friend stops him and asks him to take a rock up the mountain for him, soon another asks him to carry a stone. Further up the mountain, he acquires a boulder. Nearing the top, the man begins to complain because his load has gotten too heavy to bear. He cries out to the Lord, “why God have you given me such a heavy load?” The Lord answers, “I only gave you a pebble. The rest you took on yourself.

Along the way, we must learn to say no and focus on what God has given us to do. When we feel overwhelmed or overworked, it is time to take stock and set our priorities in order, putting God first in all that we do.

Faith

Faith

Matthew 8:5-13, Mark 11:22-24

“The Centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.”

Matthew 8:8

“When Jesus heard it, He marveled and said to those who followed. Assuredly I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel.” Matthew 8:10

“So, Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you whoever says to this mountain, be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that these things will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

Mark 11:22-24

We’re not talking here about a new car, a new bike, etc.  although I believe that if we sincerely need these things, God will provide when we ask and believe. However, God is more concerned about our heart. Ask for more compassion, a change of attitude, a more loving spirit. These things God gives freely. His forgiveness, Grace and Mercy are also free for the asking. He is a most generous God and will help us care for what is important to us, but especially to Him. “Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find.” Matthew 7:7.

Have faith in the one who gives and don’t be afraid to ask? He lives within you and wants you to ask for anything.

Endurance

Endurance

Luke 21:9-19, 2 Timothy 2:3

“You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

2 timothy 2:3.

“But when you hear of wars and commotions, do not be terrified, for these things must come to pass first, but the end will not come immediately.

Jesus told his followers that “Nation will rise against nation and the kingdom against kingdom. And there will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines and pestilences, and there will be fearful sights and great signs from heaven.” Luke 21:9-11

He encourages us to be patient and possess our soul. We are to safeguard our soul so that we won’t fall into depression, doubt, worry, hate or anything worldly as all the catastrophes take place.

Keep the faith. God is watching over us and will keep us safe.

Duty

Duty

Luke 20:21-25

In the scripture above, the Pharisees were asking Jesus if it were lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not. Jesus knew they were testing Him so He asked for a denarius and asked them whose image and inscription did it have on it. He then told them to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.

We know that all things come from and belong to God. We also know that It is the law of the land to pay taxes. Since the law is not against God’s will in this case, all persons who holds a job must pay taxes. Not only it is a duty to pay taxes, as a Christian it is our duty to give back to God a portion of what He has given to us. Take a pause now and consider what God has given to you. Even if we have little or nothing, God has given us everything. Consider the air we breathe and the motion of our body. God supplies us with everything we have.

Some say we must give a tenth of our income, some say we must support the church and its expenses. Others say we must support our missionaries. Some say we must give until it hurts. It doesn’t matter how we give and what it is for, we must do it out of Love for the God who created us.

What is important, however we give, we must do it with a willing heart.

Diligence

Diligence

Romans 12:11, 20-21

“Bless those who persecute you, bless do not curse.” Romans 12:11

“Therefore, if your enemy is hungry, feed him, if he thirsts, give him drink: for in doing so you shall heap coals of fire on his head.” Romans 12:20-21

Heaping coals of fire suggests that by showing kindness and forgiveness to an enemy, you can cause them to feel shame or guilt for their actions, potentially prompting them to repent.

None of us are perfect and none of us will always agree with each other. There will be disputes. God tells us that if we want forgiveness for our sins, we must be willing to forgive others their trespasses.

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed by your name. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive others for their trespasses. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, power, glory. Amen.”

Courage

Courage

Psalm 27:14

“Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say on the Lord!” Psalm 27:14

“But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31

Let’s look at what might need courage.

It takes courage to stand up for us, and for others. It takes courage to face the pains in our body or the pains in life. It takes courage to do something that frightens us or takes us out of our comfort zone. Courage is the willingness to act in obedience to God’s calling and purpose, relying on His strength and guidance. Courage is not with the absence of fear, but the willingness to act despite it.

What is the Lord asking you to do? God will not ask you to do something that He doesn’t think you can do. If He gives you a task or a purpose, He puts His faith and trust in you. In turn we must put our faith and trust in Him to see us through it. Be of good courage, He will never leave us to do something we can’t handle. Like Moses, He strengthens us and gives us the courage to carry out whatever He puts before us.

Contentment

Contentment

Philippians 4:11-13, I Timothy 6:6

“Not that I speak regarding need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content. I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things, I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:11-13

“Now godliness with contentment is great gain.” I Timothy 6:6

Every morning, we wake up, get out of bed. We have air to breathe, food to eat, clothes to wear. How many people in this world don’t have food to eat or clothes to wear? They might not even have a shelter to live in. Whatever our circumstances, there are always people who are worse off than us.

No amount of complaining does any good. But praying, not just for us, but for those who are worse off than us, will bring blessings to all. In the meantime, being content with what we have speaks volumes of who we are and how much we care for others. God knows what we need before we ask, and He always provides for us.

“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.”

Consecration

Consecration

Romans 12:1,2

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1,2

How do we present our body to God, to make it holy, acceptable to God? I believe it is in feeding our body both physical and spiritual food. Good, healthy choices in eating the right foods that maintain strong, healthy bodies. To keep our mind sound and fit to do whatever is asked of us. Junk food will only deplete our mind and body of our muscles and will make us old and wrinkly. Just like a daily reading of the Bible will keep our mind and body strong and healthy. Books or tv shows that are full of sex and cursing will cause our mind and body to go to dark places and will deplete our mind and body of strength and good health.

A good exercise routine is also necessary to keep our bodies in motion, to maintain enough oxygen to feed our brain. To live a docile life is to deplete our bodies of muscle strength and will weaken us to live a couch potato life. God says we are to go out in the world and preach the Word. Get out and walk and whoever you meet along the way, bless them with a blessing from God.

When we pray to God, Praise His name and worship Him we are not conforming to the world but we are renewing our mind to live a holy, acceptable life in the will of God.

Cleanliness

Cleanliness

2 Corinthians 7:1

“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness.”

Do you know that when God created your body, He created it to be His temple where His Holy Spirit can dwell?  Would you invite Him into a filthy home? How do we go about cleansing our flesh and spirit?

First, we need to examine what God considers filthiness. In 1 John 2:16 it lists three things that are sins of the flesh: lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life. Lust of the flesh include: “adultery, fornication, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, envy, murder, and drunkenness.” Galatians 5:19-21

The lust of the eyes would include covetousness, gluttony and temptations that we see and fall for. The Pride of life would include being boastful, egotistical and self-absorbed. None of these things would get us into the Kingdom of Heaven and would not invite the Holy Spirit to dwell within our temple (body).

To cleanse our flesh and spirit we need to put on “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22. This is where the Holy Spirit lives and wants to be comfortable. Let us strive to clean up our lives to be acceptable in the sight of God.

Citizenship

Citizenship

Romans 13:1-7, Titus 3:1

“Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil.” Romans 13:1-3

“Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus Christ.” Titus 3:1

Not all people like to be told what to do by ones having authority over us, nor do they like how the authority rules over them. But God put them in our lives for a reason and that is to make a better life for us while we are here living on earth. Not all things are done easily and quickly. Patience is required and prayers for the ones in authority are required. Not all human authorities are perfect, they will make mistakes along the way. Even more reason to pray for them and do our best to make their job easier. It is not good to resist authority, it could lead to jail time, or hurtful situations.

We have one authority that is perfect and that is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To resist authority on earth is to resist our Savior who has appointed the authority on earth. Jesus expects us to be obedient to not only His authority but to those whom He put in place to rule over us. More importantly though we are to be obedient to God’s Word and to practice godly lives.

Abundant Life

Abundant Life

John 10:10

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

John 10:10

Satan has a way of sneaking into our lives. He wants to steal our soul, and kill our happiness, and destroy our spirituality. Christ came so that we can have an abundant life. He wants us to live with Him here on earth so that we can go be with Him in heaven. He wants us to devote our lives to serving Him and no other. We mustn’t let satan tempt us into doing anything that we know is wrong and against God’s will. We must always strive to be obedient and please God in all that we do or say. Pleasing mankind or our own self can deplete us from an abundant life. That only comes from God.

Worried

Worried

Matthew 6:19-34, I Peter 5:6,7

“Therefore, do not worry, saying what shall we eat? Or what shall we drink? Or what shall we wear? For after all, these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:31-34

“Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

I Peter 5:6,7

When we worry, we are telling God that we don’t think he can handle our situation. We’re not even sure we can handle the situation ourselves. When we let go of the worry and put our trust in the fact that God knows what is best for us and His plans are perfect, then we can relax and let God do His work. We don’t have to know what He’s going to do; we just must believe it is going to turn out good.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

Worldliness

Worldliness

I John 2:15-17.

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world- the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.” I John 2:15-17.

In life, we have choices. We can choose to do things our way or choose to do things God’s way. If we choose to do things our way then our pleasures are only temporary. It will seem good for a time but in the end nothing good will come from it.

If we choose to do things God’s way, He will always be by our side and make our path worth living. We’ll be able to rejoice and praise Him for all He does for us. We will abide in His will forever.

Weary

Weary

Matthew 11:28-30, I Corinthians 15:58, Galatians 6:9,10

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

I Corinthians 15:58

“And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:9,10

Do you sometimes feel weary? Do you feel like others are asking too much of you? Do you feel heavy ladened? What are we to do about this? I believe the first thing we must do is to discern what it is that God is asking you to do and what it is that mankind is asking you to do. If God is asking you to do something, then He will see you through it. If it is from man, then we need to ask ourselves if it aligns with God’s will and if it is within our priorities. There is nothing wrong with doing for others as long as we are not overdoing it. There is so much we can do in one day and if we don’t have time for ourselves on that day, then we must be taking on too much. Don’t be weary, be discerning. Your reward awaits you in heaven.

Trouble, In

Trouble, In

Job 16, 31, Psalm 31, John 14:1-4, Hebrews 7:25

In Job 16, Job moans that God has made him a target for misery and his friends are in no way comforters, but accusers. In Job 31, Job asks God what he has done wrong and if he has done wrong, then let him be disciplined.

David in Psalm 31-David says, “You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for your name’s sake, lead me and guide me. Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me. For you are my strength. Into your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth…For you have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities and have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place.” David pleads his case before God in the rest of Psalm 31. Please read it.

In John 14:1 Jesus said, “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.”

“Therefore, He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25.

If you are knee deep in any kind of trouble, God is not punishing you but is helping you to see the path He has laid out for you. Whether you choose that path is up to you. That path is Jesus Christ. He always provides a way out of your troubles. Look to Jesus and tell Him everything. He will lead you if you let Him. Jesus is our shelter in time of need.

Tribulation

Tribulation

John 16:33

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

In this world we have wars and rumors of wars. We have floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, pestilence, diseases and death. There is a lot of grieving going on, but we do not need to fear these things when we know where we are going. According to Dr. David Jeremiah, he states that when Jesus comes to get us, all His followers will ascend into heaven after our loved ones rise from their graves. On our way to heaven, we will transform into a new physical body. We will still have this body, but it won’t have scars, pimples and moles, we will have perfect vision, perfect hearing. No more glasses or hearing aids. There will be no need for walkers and wheelchairs. We will have perfect teeth. Once we ascend into heaven our bodies will have transformed into the image of Christ. There will no longer be tribulations like the ones we have here on earth.

There is no need to stress over what is happening here because this is not our home, we are just passing through. While we are here we learn patience, kindness and love for one another. We learn to be content with what we have and help those who are in need. We are still on this earth because God has a plan for each of us and we must fulfill His plan by being obedient to Him and to Love and care for each other.

“The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the Salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations 3:25,26

Traveling

Traveling

Psalm 121

“He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.” Psalm 121:4

“The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade at your right hand, the sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.”

“The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth and even forevermore.” Psalm 121:5-8

No matter where you are, God is there. Whether you are home or on the road, God is there. He will protect you and always keep you in His sight. He never sleeps and is aware of your every breath. He makes time for you, and He wants you to make time for Him. Whether you are at home or traveling far away, God wants you to know He is right next to you. He will never leave you. Take time to feel His presence in your life. Talk (pray) to Him. He always listens and He always answers. Rest safe in His arms wherever you are.

Thankful

Thankful

Psalm 100, I Thessalonians 5:18, Hebrews 13:15

“Know that the Lord, He is God, it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” “Enter into His gates with Thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.” Psalm 100:3-5

“In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” I Thessalonians 5:18

“Therefore, by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.” Hebrews 13:15

Optimistic, positive people tend to have a thankful heart.

Pessimistic, negative people tend to complain about everything.

When God is in our life, our thankful heart can’t help but praise Him, but how can we praise Him if our mind is full of pessimistic, negative thoughts.

If we take a moment to consider all that God has done for us, we will find that there is much more to be thankful for than there are to complain about.

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

Tempted

Tempted

Psalm 1, Psalm 139:23,24, Matthew 26:41, I Corinthians 10:12-14, Philippians 4:8, James 4:7, 2 Peter 2:9, 3:17

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the paths of sinners, not sits in the seat of the scornful.” Psalm 1:1

“For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” Psalm 1:6

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties, and see if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Psalm 139:23,24

“Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41

“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” I Corinthians 10:13

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy – think on these things.” Philippians 4:8

“Therefore, submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

Swearing

Swearing

Colossians 3:8-10

“But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another; since you have put off the old man with his deeds and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created man.” Colossians 3:8-10

If you are a child of God there should be no room in your life for all the things listed in these verses. We are to put God first in all things and are to strive to please God above all others. Ask yourself, “what would Jesus do?” His display in the temple was a righteous anger because the people were in disobedience to God. There was no wrath, malice, blasphemy or filthy language coming from His mouth. He is our example to live by. Our soul should be as pure as it can be for Jesus.

Our character is built by how we live and present ourselves to others. If you profess love to God, you must prove it to God by living as Jesus lived.
