Cleanliness
2 Corinthians 7:1
“Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse
ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness.”
Do you know that when God created your body, He created
it to be His temple where His Holy Spirit can dwell? Would you invite Him into a filthy home? How
do we go about cleansing our flesh and spirit?
First, we need to examine what God considers filthiness. In
1 John 2:16 it lists three things that are sins of the flesh: lust of the flesh,
lust of the eyes and pride of life. Lust of the flesh include: “adultery, fornication,
lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousy, outbursts of anger,
selfish ambitions, dissensions, envy, murder, and drunkenness.” Galatians 5:19-21
The lust of the eyes would include covetousness, gluttony
and temptations that we see and fall for. The Pride of life would include being
boastful, egotistical and self-absorbed. None of these things would get us into
the Kingdom of Heaven and would not invite the Holy Spirit to dwell within our
temple (body).
To cleanse our flesh and spirit we need to put on “love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.” Galatians
5:22. This is where the Holy Spirit lives and wants to be comfortable. Let us
strive to clean up our lives to be acceptable in the sight of God.
Please read the scriptures listed, study
them, apply them to your life and grow in the saving relationship with Jesus
Christ our Savior.
